Garbage Pail Kid
Quin has an obsession with the trash can in our kitchen. He likes to take stuff out and put stuff in... His empty sippy cup has been found in there a few times as well as some toys. Usually, I can catch him in the act.
The other day, I was looking for a missing toy because I knew it had to be somewhere. Things don't just disappear, right? I looked everywhere possible. (I hate it when toys are not where they should be!) Then I decided I needed to look in the trash..... that I just took out. Ew.
I dug through it once briefly and found nothing.
I still felt the need to be thorough, so I put a baggy on my hand and really dug through it. (Did I mention I was doing this in my driveway in 90 degree weather?? Yeah, ew.)
I didn't find my missing toy, but I did find these:

My missing toy ended up being downstairs in a My Little Pony bucket, but still. Good thing I looked.
Makes me wonder how many other things we've thrown away without knowing...

It's because of this child, I'm thinking, that we may quite possibly have hit our deductible for the year.

Been going for months, but now he's official!
For nursery, that is!
Quin's stats:
Age: 18 months
Height: 33.5 inches (90th percentile)
Weight: 24.14 lbs. (25th percentile - he's a mover and a shaker)
Teeth: 10!! Four up top, four on bottom, two bottom molars
Favorite song: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Favorite food: Cookies and chocolate milk
Favorite movies: Thomas and Baby Einsteins
Favorite toys: trucks, choo choos, balls and anything Andur's playing with
Favorite book: Goodnight Moon (side note: he likes to lick the page we say "Goodnight mouse" on - strange boy)
Favorite friend: Eli (the boy I babysit)
Dislikes: peaches, mandarin oranges and footy jammies
Temperament: ornery, sweet, happy
Loves: water, using silverware (he can eat cereal and ice cream like a pro!), smelling candles or oils, swinging, sliding, jumping on the tramp, throwing dirt, waving to people out our front window, going "bye bye", reading books, being outside, wearing his shoes, taking baths, playing with hangers, climbing on the table, laughing, giving hugs, trains, trucks, puppies, and his family!
Words he knows and can say:
up
Eli
baby
ball
car
truck
Dada
bye bye - if he wants to go somewhere
bye - if he's just waving to someone
choo choo

He can mimick more, but I don't know that he "gets" them, yet. And, no, "mama" was not on that list. *sigh* He still calls me "dada". Someday, right?
He's my most energetic, my naughtiest, and squishiest baby. I was surprised to see how much he didn't weigh! In the above picture, he's wearing 3T clothes, but mostly wears 18 months or 24 months.
We love him to pieces and do try hard not to spoil him. He's got Andur's desire to sit and figure out how things work, but Natalie's inability to sit still for very long. He's our little stink! :)
Just chillin' at the top of a slide:

Bomb-dropping
My husband and I watched a new movie last night, "The Back-up Plan", and it was hilarious!! I don't remember the last time I laughed so hard during a movie!
During the whole movie, I was thinking, I definitely want to own this! Like books, I only buy movies if I'm going to watch them more than once, otherwise, I call it a good one and move on.
We get to almost the very end of this movie and out of no where, the bomb is dropped.
The F-bomb, that is.
We have a rule in our house... We don't own any R rated movies or any movie that has the "F" word in it. Not even if it's only once. We've passed on a LOT of good movies because of this, but we stick to our guns.
I was seriously so incredibly BUMMED because of this stupid, means nothing, unnecessary word!! I wanted this movie so bad!
Why do they have to do that? WHY??
I love the saying, "Profanity is the attempt of a feeble mind to express itself forcefully."
Feeble, as is in frail. Frail, as in weak. Get my point?
It's just a shame to ruin a perfectly good movie like that.

Genius children
Natalie: You know that flubber stuff in our ears, the stuff that sharks are made out of?
Andur: Isn't it called fillosside?
Natalie: No, that's the stuff that the dentist uses.

Tattle-tale
Overheard while I was making dinner yesterday:
"Dad! Natalie won't let me play with her just because I'm an old lady who keeps falling from the sky!"

Purifier of Silver
A friend of mine sent this to me in an email... at first I wasn't going to read it, but decided to and am glad I did. :) Hope you take the time to read it, too - it's worth it.
Malachi 3:3 says: 'He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver.'
This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God ...
One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.
That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining Silver.
As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.
The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says: ' He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver.'
She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time.
The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.
The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, 'How do you know when the silver is fully refined?'
He smiled at her and answered, 'Oh, that's easy -- when I see my image in it.'
If today you are feeling the heat of the fire , remember that God has his eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

Painted Love
This is for D & K who wanted to see my new livingroom color. For the record, I hate painting. I hate other people doing it for me even more, so I'll do it myself, but I hate it. I dislike white walls a little more than I hate painting, so painting is the lesser of the two evils. Plus, my livingroom is just nice and warm now, not apartment dingy white anymore. :) Oh, and cottage cheese ceilings?? Seriously? Who invented that?? SO much fun to paint around!
"Warmed Caramel" is the official color title.
With the light on:

With the light on:
It looks greener than it really is... the camera just didn't do it justice...
This one seems a little more accurate...
And here's the hat Grandma and Papa sent for Quin. He's just cute. ;)
