My rainbow is complete

I used to think I had OCD.  Now I know it's OCPD.

I looked at the diagnostic criteria and found several matches.  I think this is pretty funny, actually.

I once told my brother-in-law that nothing gets lost in my house.  Nothing.  If something can't be found, it's simply misplaced.  He laughed.

Two days ago, I went to clean up Quin's toys, like I do every night, and found that a book was missing.  The orange one.  It's a series of rainbow colored books, so that's how I know.  I put them in order every night.  So, when it came up missing, I figured, like everything else, it had to be one of two places:  the couch or under the entertainment center.  So, I do my usual search and find nothing.  Well, a found an empty Tic Tac container and an itty bitty Star Wars gun, but anyway...

I looked in every single nook and cranny I could access on my couch at least twice.  I did at least two searches with a yardstick under my entertainment center.

I even used a flash light.

I decided to broaden my search to under my fridge, under the drawer that sits under the stove, in the garbage that had already been taken out to the curb, my kids' rooms, their toy buckets, the box of clothes sitting on my living room floor, underneath every single toy of Quin's, dumped out his toy box, looked in the shoes, the coat closet, my bookshelves, behind my books, out in the garage......... literally everywhere I could think of.

For TWO DAYS.

This was driving me insane.  I couldn't sit in my living room without thinking about that stupid book.  I can't have an incomplete set - who does that?? (lol)

I seriously (you're gonna laugh) even prayed about it.  Told you, OCPD.

This morning, as I was sitting on my couch thinking about that dumb book, the thought occurred to me... look under the entertainment center from behind.

I FOUND THE BOOK!

My yardstick searching must've shoved it all the way to the back, getting it mixed up in the cables.

Now my life is in order again.  :)

Cathartic

Not a word I wanted someone using to describe my talk on Sunday.

Am I offended?

No.

Am I embarrassed?

Yes.  A little.  And not because this person used this word as an adjective pointed in my direction, but because this person was right.

I struggled with the preparation of my talk and actually got several compliments on it.  I couldn't tell you who said what as far as the good things that were said, but I remember this particular comment quite well.  I know it wasn't meant to do any harm, I don't think the person who said it is capable of such things.

I think what it comes down to is I know it wasn't my best talk ever and being my own worst critic isn't helping.

I'm just so glad it's over.

One good thing I will remember about this nerve-racking event (meaning my talk, not the comment) is someone came up to me and told me I gave her an answer she was looking for.  She's my hero.  ;)

Say it again! Say it again!

Quin heard a lot of that, tonight.  He has a new word.  "DADDY"!!!

Not dada, which he does say, but dadDY.  At first it was more of a "dah-daieee", but it soon morphed into the real thing.  And he means what he says, too, as in, Matt is the proudest daddy ever tonight.  :)

He also says choo-choo, truck, tent, touch, and I think please.  It's more of an "eeczh", but I'll take it.

He also says more and please and eat in sign language.  We'll work on thank you, next.

He also makes the sound for cars and trains, which is hilarious as it's more of a growl, but it's so cute.

It's all very cute.  I love this stage (even if it's slow going).  He's finally standing by things!

He also loves puppies and kitties and being outside and eating things off of my plate even though he has the same exact thing on his and taking off his socks (still) and playing catch and opening and closing his brother's Bakugan (or whatever they're called) and pushing any button he can find and watching Thomas and playing with our shoes and playing hide and seek with Natalie and waving at people and blowing kisses and being held (new thing - kind of cute but kind of annoying) and dancing to music and waving his arms to lead the music at church and nursery (he comes with me) and balloons (more like an obsession) and baths and throwing his blankie out of his bed when he wakes up and (are you bored yet?) eating crayons and drawing pictures with a pen and knocking down anything that is nicely stacked and so many other things...

And we love him.  :)

Organization is futile

The only cupboard I can't seem to imaginitively block off:

Such a naughty pants! He knows it, too!

Please pass the random

Andur, at dinner, completely out of nowhere:  "Timmy died in the crash of '62."

Natalie:  "Who's Timmy?"

Andur:  "Tommy."

Natalie:  "Who's Tommy?"

Andur:  "I mean Bobby."

Natalie:  "Who's Bobby?"

Andur:  "You don't know who Bobby is?"

Natalie:  "No."

Andur:  "Well, do you know his brother Bob?"

Matt:  "He's related to little Timmy."  Then something about a gas station, I think, and alien abduction...

As the conversation continued, I heard Andur say something like "alien named Origami"...

Yeah, my brain pretty much shut down at this point out of protest.

New definition of insanity

So, my kids were not only awake at 5:30 this morning, but wanted to jump on the trampoline then, too.

How do I know this? They woke me up to ask me if they could.

My husband thought this was funny.

Me? Not so much.

I made them wait till 7:00.

And, yes, it is a school day.

I say gAHla you say gAYla

Monday night's FHE was spent oohing and aahing over artwork done by kids grades K-12 at an art gala.  Andur was one of those kids!

A closer look:

Very cool.

They had a couple of choirs singing, some painters painting, some sculpters sculpting, and they even had an area set up for freelance drawing:

It was pretty cool.  I wish I hadn't missed the last one he was in, but at least we went to this one.  ;)

Could somebody explain this to me? *smirk*

An old, busted up blind cowboy wanders into an all-girl biker bar by mistake. He finds his way to a barstool and orders some coffee. After sitting there for a while, he yells to the waiter,

"Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?"

The bar immediately falls absolutely silent. In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says,

"Before you tell that joke, Cowboy, I think it is only fair, given that you are blind, that you should know five things:

1. The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat.
2. The bouncer is a blonde girl.
3. I'm a 6-foot tall, 175-pound blonde woman with a black belt in karate.
4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional weight-lifter.
5. The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler.

"Now, think about it seriously, Mister. Do you Still wanna tell that joke?"

The blind cowboy thinks for a second, shakes his head, and mutters,

"No ... not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times."

These are a few of his favorite things...

I've had a couple of requests for more pics of Quin... so I've been taking a few over the past week or two of things he loves.

Enjoy.  :)

He loves my older kids' play tents:

And LOVES this truck:

This stupid thing, which he only really has in his bed or sometimes his carseat:

He loves him some Cheetos:

I thought this was pretty cute:
When we eat, no matter what it is, he has to have a bowl/plate and a spoon or fork.  He loves to use them!

He loves his Natalie:

He LOVES Thomas (or as he says it, "choo choo"):

And speaking of Thomas, last night when I was putting his jammies on, I pointed out the dinosaurs on his shirt.  This morning, when he was watching Thomas, they mentioned a dinosaur bone.  He started pointing to the ones on his shirt!

And speaking of trains, in general, he loves them:
He's figured out that if he pulls back on this one, it goes all by itself.  No one even showed him! Them wheels are turnin'! ;)

He loves his blanky (I got smart and bought two after Andur tore, er, loved his to literally shreds and we had to try and find the same material.):

No one can go outside while he's watching without him getting so mad.  So, when it's nice, we take him out because he loves it:

He's definitely one of our favorite things, that's for sure.  :)
